One thing my hubby has learned during his career in IT is that you can never sit back and think you are done certifying of products and applications. He has attended many types of training either online or in a classroom setting. He is certified in Windows networks and many other vendors but now his certifications are old and he has to decide what to do in the future. Although IT has slowed down since my hubby got into the field in his early career it is still one of the highest paying and most sought after career fields in the USA.

When you are looking for training you have to find out what type of learning experience fits your style of absorbing information. Retaining the information is paramount to being able to successfully show your expertise through certification testing. Then you need to decide what discipline you will certify in. Windows, database, networking, security or application management just to name a few. Cisco is the giant in network certifications having lead the revolution to secure high speed networks that deliver bandwidth at speeds never before imagined. Cisco certification is one of the most sought after certifications due to the fact the positions attainable are high paying and the certifications are held in high regard in the IT community.

My hubby maintains that the Cisco CCIE is the highest level of attainment for networking knowledge. Many of his colleagues who are at the same point in his career have attained that level or are in the process of completing a certification road map. CCIE’s with over 5 years of experience earn up to $30,000 more per year on average then their counterparts with other certifications. As you can easily see it is worth it if your career is the still growing field of Information Technology! Go for it!
